Privacy Policy
In short
- We only collect what Yiru needs to work: your email, the name you go by, and the tasks and messages your household writes.
- We do not track location, read anything else on your phone, time how long a helper takes, or ask for identity documents.
- We do not sell data, show ads, or use advertising or analytics cookies.
- Accounts and text records are stored on servers in Singapore.
- Translation and our AI assistant, Momo, use OpenAI models to process the relevant text. OpenAI does not use this content to train its models.
- To access, correct or delete your data, email [email protected].
1. Who we are
Yiru (易如管家 in Chinese) is provided by YIRU TECH, a business registered in Singapore (UEN 53513779J). “We”, “us” and “our” in this policy mean YIRU TECH.
This policy covers the Yiru app (app.yiru.com) and our website (www.yiru.com). We handle personal data in accordance with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
Data protection contact: [email protected].
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: email address, the name you go by (a nickname is fine), profile photo (optional), app language, and role (employer or helper).
- Household details: a name you choose for your home (for example “My home”), who belongs to the household, time zone, reminder times, and the helper’s rest days.
- What your household writes: tasks and how to do them, notes, chat messages, voice messages, photos (optional), and flowers and thank-yous.
- Conversations with Momo: what you say to Momo, photos you send it, and Momo’s replies.
Information created as you use Yiru
- Task records: which tasks are done, who ticked them, which tasks a helper has confirmed they understand, and reasons a task was not done.
- Message status: whether a message has been read and whether a reminder reached the phone.
- Technical data: sign-in sessions, the IP address and browser type used to sign in, and the device subscription needed for push notifications.
What we do not collect
- Location, contacts, photos you have not chosen to upload, or anything else on your phone.
- NRIC, work permit, passport or other identity document details. Yiru does not need them; please do not put them in tasks or messages.
- How long a helper spends on each task or when they are online. Yiru neither measures nor shows this.
3. How we use it
- To provide the service: show lists and today’s tasks, send reminders on time, translate content into each person’s language, deliver messages, and prepare the weekly summary for employers.
- Sign-in and security: email verification codes, and preventing abuse.
- To improve the service: we review conversations with Momo to improve how it understands and arranges tasks. These reviews are only used to improve Yiru and are never shared outside it.
- To contact you: sign-in codes, household invitations and important service notices. We do not send marketing emails unless you separately agree.
We do not sell personal data or use it to target advertising.
4. Who in the household sees what
What your household writes is shared only among members of that household. Other households cannot see it.
- Employers can see: the lists and their progress, who completed each task, which tasks helpers have confirmed, reasons a task was not done, helpers’ rest days, and the weekly summary.
- Helpers can see: the lists, today’s tasks, their own rest days and the flowers they have received.
- Chats are visible only to the people in the conversation. The sender can see whether a message has been read; this works the same way for employers and helpers.
- Momo conversations are not visible to other household members. As explained in section 3, we review them to improve the service.
5. Service providers
We use the providers below to run Yiru. They may only process data on our instructions and for the purpose of providing the service.
| Provider | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| OpenAI | Translation; the Momo AI assistant | Text to be translated, your conversations with Momo, and the list content and names Momo needs to complete a request. OpenAI processes this under its business API terms and does not use it to train its models. |
| Cloudflare | Network security and delivery; storage of photos and voice messages | Network traffic to our sites; photos you upload and voice messages you send. |
| Email delivery provider | Sending sign-in codes and invitations | The recipient’s email address and the email content. |
| Push services of Apple, Google, Mozilla and Microsoft | Delivering reminders to your phone or browser | Short reminder text, such as a task name and the sender’s name. Chat content is not included. |
Voice input (speaking to Momo) is transcribed on our own server, and the recording is deleted as soon as it has been transcribed.
We may switch to or add other AI model providers in future (for example, Anthropic’s Claude). We will update this policy if we do.
Apart from the above, we disclose personal data only when required by law, for example a lawful request from a law enforcement authority.
6. Where data is stored
Accounts and text records are stored on servers in Singapore.
The providers listed above may process data outside Singapore, for example OpenAI’s model services. We only use providers that commit to a standard of protection comparable to the PDPA, and we handle such transfers in line with the PDPA’s requirements for transfers outside Singapore.
7. How long we keep it
- Your household’s data is kept while your account exists, so you can look back at past records.
- Momo conversations: we keep the most recent 400 messages per person per household; older ones are deleted automatically. You can also clear them in the app at any time.
- Notification records are kept for 30 days. Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes.
- A message can be unsent within 5 minutes; an unsent message is permanently deleted.
- When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days. Copies in backups are removed within 14 days as backups rotate.
So that the rest of the household keeps a complete record, some content you added to the household (such as tasks you wrote) may remain after your account is deleted, but it will no longer be linked to you.
8. Your rights
You can:
- access the personal data we hold about you, and find out how it has been used or disclosed in the past year;
- correct inaccurate data — your name, photo and language can be changed directly in the app;
- withdraw consent, or ask us to delete your account and data.
Email [email protected] from the address you registered with, so we can confirm it is you. We will reply within 30 days. If you withdraw consent, we may no longer be able to provide the service to you.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your data, you may also complain to Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).
9. Helpers’ data
Helpers join at their employer’s invitation, sign up with their own email address and agree to this policy themselves. A helper’s data belongs to the helper, who has all the rights in section 8 and may contact us directly without going through the employer.
Employers should not enter sensitive information about helpers, such as identity documents or health details, and should not use Yiru to monitor helpers. Yiru is for making household tasks clear.
10. Security
- All connections are encrypted with HTTPS.
- There are no passwords; sign-in codes are stored on our servers only in hashed form.
- Each household’s data is kept separate, and photos and voice messages can only be opened through time-limited links.
- Data is backed up daily.
No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause you significant harm, we will notify you and the relevant authority as the PDPA requires.
11. Cookies and storage on your phone
We only use the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
So you can still see things when the connection is poor, the app keeps some content, such as lists and drafts, on your phone. This is cleared when you switch accounts or sign out. If you share a phone, please sign out when you are done.
Our website, www.yiru.com, has no sign-in and we do not set cookies on it. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies to protect against malicious traffic.
To count visits, the website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. It does not use cookies or identify individual visitors; it records things like which pages were viewed, the site you came from, and your country and type of device. Our web server also keeps a short record of the pages requested, including campaign tags in links (such as utm_source), the referring site and the browser type. It does not record IP addresses. The app at app.yiru.com does not use this analytics.
12. Age
Yiru is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
13. Changes to this policy
When we update this policy, we will show the new effective date on this page. For significant changes, we will let you know in advance in the app or by email.
This policy is available in English and Chinese. If the two differ, the English version prevails.
